Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last several weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night just to realize your furnace won’t start up. If this happens to you, here are a few things you can check yourself before calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters every 30 days. If you fail to do so, they can end up clogged, blocking air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but make sure the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your furnace will still not kick on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 901-235-1196 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
