Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your air conditioning unit constantly to stay comfortable, remember to call your air conditioning technician to come out and conduct your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are several other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

Don’t start taking your air conditioner apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the ground around your unit to remove branches and debris that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the A/C and cut back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will change your home’s basic air filters when they complete your seasonal tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also swap out your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s advised that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard A/C system service. Note that a clogged filter could possibly damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t check your smoke and CO detector batteries over daylight savings, now it a great time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your system isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature away from home and save money on your heating and cooling bills.

An annual AC tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your air conditioner is ready to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and learn about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
